The Dr. John G. Bartlett Memorial Education Series
Dive into the interesting and complex world of infectious diseases with the Dr. John G. Bartlett Memorial Education Series. This video series features previously-recorded talks by John G. Bartlett, MD, FIDSA, on various infectious diseases, including the story behind the elimination of the deadly scourge of smallpox, now only a historic footnote due to a successful vaccination program.
Esteemed ID professionals and patient advocates also come together for this series to host live lectures on topics including HIV, COVID-19, antimicrobial drug resistance and more.
The Microbiome and C. diff – Can the Gut Defend Against Infection?
In recognition of Clostridioides difficile Awareness Month, the IDSA Foundation hosted a webinar to discuss how the microbiome can defend against C. diff and other infections. C. diff, a bacterium of the gut that causes diarrhea and inflammation of the colon, affects nearly 500,000 Americans each year. One in six patients will experience recurrence within 2-8 weeks of infection. Risk factors include a weakened immune system (including transplant, HIV and cancer patients); being 65 or older; being on antibiotics; or having recently completed a course of antibiotics.
