Meet the IDSA Foundation’s New Program Manager
We are excited to introduce the newest member of the IDSA Foundation team – Evelyn Morales! Evelyn will be serving as the Foundation’s Program Manager and is here to help us grow and manage our already exciting programs.
Before you meet or work with Evelyn through an IDSA Foundation program, get to know her through this Q&A!
Q: What organization are you coming from and what was your role?
A: I am coming from the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Foundation where I also served as a Program Manager.
The most rewarding part about my experience at this organization had to be developing a program called Operation Sight. This program provides charitable cataract surgery to those who are uninsured and to those at or below the 200% Federal Poverty Level in the United States. To date it has provided charitable cataract surgery to over 4,000 people. It was a very humbling experience!
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am of Peruvian decent but born and raised in the Northern Virginia area. I attended Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, but have always been drawn back to the DC Metropolitan area.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I am a huge DC sports fan – especially of the Washington Capitals. Attending a game whenever possible and spending time with family and friends is always something I enjoy doing during my free time. GO CAPS!
Q: What are you most excited about for your new position?
A: I recently read an alarming statistic which stated the U.S. will have a shortage of 46,000 to 90,000 physicians by 2025. A major part of IDSA Foundation programs is to impact the field of infectious diseases by empowering the next generation of leaders and increasing the number of doctors practicing in infectious diseases. Although my role is a small part, our overall programs intend to help reduce this statistic by ensuring a strong pipeline for qualified ID specialists.
Q: What interested you most in the IDSA Foundation?
A: I am most excited to learn more on Infectious diseases and the role ID professionals play within public health programs throughout the world.
